Dr Snehalatha Prasad has had an innate sense of perceiving the beauty of milieu and expression in the form of drawing. She uses contemporary colours and their amalgamation to create artefacts. One can see that she gives equal importance to subject and texture and that can be distinguished in her paintings. Recently, Snehalatha has been bestowed with the ‘Great Asia Woman’s Achiever’ award for her work ‘Parents and Daughter’ in Udaipur.

Speaking with The Hans India, Dr Snehalatha Prasad shares her tryst with art. “I did my PhD in arts from Jaipur University in 2002. My parents and my husband encouraged me to pursue my passion. I started my career with graphic paintings. Later, I started making sculptures. I am inspired by the beauty of mother nature. I wanted to show its greatness to people with expressions and I did 60 sculptures till now,” Snehalatha Prasad said.

She lamented that not many women are taking the ‘Stone Art’. “Most of the woman artists think that this art is difficult and it suits only men. In most of my stone art camps, I was the only woman to participate. One must be patient while creating an artwork. We have to work for many hours under the sun to make a sculpture. One big sculpture takes around 15 days to complete,” Dr Prasad shared.

Speaking about getting Great Asia Woman’s Achiever award, she said, “This year the Union Government has invited entries for the Great Asia Woman’s Achiever award in sculpture. I have sent my work titled ‘Parents and Daughter’ and it got selected. ‘Parents and Daughter’ explains the importance of parents’ support towards their daughters’ dreams.”

She recently did a 64ft painting ‘Abstract Realism’ in 15 days, which showcases the greatness of Indian art history. “I want to promote the Indian art at international level. I’m also planning to set up an art gallery in Hyderabad within two months. I planning to make a 26ft sculpture titled ‘Pancha Pandavas’. In future, I would like to become a garden sculptor,” she concluded.
