GHMC sanctions Rs 1.48 cr for Char Kaman, Rs 3.50 cr for Murgi Chowk renovation

Charminar: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) swung into action and sanctioned necessary funds for the conservation and renovation works of heritage structures in Old City. The move comes following the announcement of Municipal Administration Minister K Taraka Rama Rao. The GHMC sanctioned Rs 6.77 crore for the purpose.

Administrative sanction was accorded by the GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy for renovation works of the four Kamans with an estimated cost of Rs 177.00 lakh. The four Kamans on Gulzar house road near Charminar are Charkaman, Mehilikaman, Kaalikaman and Saher-e-Batil ki Kaman. The estimates are sent to the Archaeology Department for wetting and technically sanctioned for an amount of Rs 148.00 lakh.

Re-construction of Murgi Chowk with Rs 3.5 cr

Nawab Asman the Bahadur, the late Prime Minister of the princely state of Hyderabad during 1887 and 1894, constructed a rectangle shaped Mahbub Chowk. There is a five-storied clock tower in this chowk, but the chowk is now encroached by street vendors. Some parts of the building almost collapsed, and it is now lying in dilapidated condition. The GHMC sanctioned Rs 5 crore to reconstruct the building, with the help of this fund an underground cellar along with ground and first floor will be constructed. The GHMC also sanctioned Rs 1.5 cr to renovate the old clock tower in the market.
