Secunderabad: While on one hand, the entire city is basking in the colour of love on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, on the other hand, the officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have utilised the opportunity in a unique way to promote hygiene and sanitation in the city through a campaign themed “Waste Divorce Day”, here on Wednesday.
Centered on the message of uniting people for happiness and dividing garbage for health, the novel concept was held on a grand scale at several areas in and around Secunderabad. A brainchild of GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, the programme aimed to sensitise public over the need to dispose dry and wet waste in a scientific manner for a healthy environment along with gathering support in making Hyderabad top the Swachh Survekshan rankings which are around the corner. Here are a few activities which were held in various parts in the north constituencies of GHMC.
Gulaabi Gang Swachhatha
As part of the programme, North Zone Commissioner J Shankariah along with Deputy Commissioners of Secunderabad and Begumpet, K Ravi Kumar and A Shailaja visited a major park in the city and interacted with students of Nasr School to know if they were aware of segregation of dry and wet waste. To the surprise of the officials, the children also identified them on a chart displayed to them.
Later, the Safai Karamcharis, Sanitation Field Workers and several other employees of the GHMC gave roses to couples in the park and urged them to be part of the Swachh Survekshan.
Human Chain Formation
Over 150 people participated in a rally at Addagutta to promote the message that the health of the city is collective responsibility of the government and its people. As part of the event, a human chain was formed and an oath of Swachhata was taken by the GHMC employees along with several other civilians of the area. Deputy Commissioner K Ravi Kumar along with Addagutta Corporator Vijaya Kumari and several local leaders participated in the event.
Swachhata Survey
Deputy Commissioner of Gajularamaram Vijay Kumar along with his team of Sanitation Field Assistants, local leaders and several other GHMC employees held a thorough inspection drive at the IDPL road as a part of the programme.
Encouraging people to download the Swachhatha app on their phone, Vijay made all the members to do it so as to set an example for the public. Later, the officials organised an Annadanam at a Shiva temple and interacted with the residents.
Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani
Targetting housewives in the area to spread the message of scientific separation of wastes Deputy Commssioner B Sudamsh along with DPO Sandhya SFA rajasingh , SFA Sudarshan, and area Swachh Dhooths held a demonstration of the technique and also encouraged them to promote it in their neighbourhood to achieve the Swachh Hyderabad.
