Kapra: Having the biggest primary health centre at Jamigada within Kapra circle, the locals are banking on Kesara based primary health center or the private hospitals in parts of city for treatment. The center can gather pace to treat just 15 to 20 patients in a day.

Since four years of its establishment, the centre has no sufficient medical staff and the patients are in deep trouble. As many patients are rushing to the private hospitals in case of emergency. “We imagined that the setting up of the health centre came as a huge relief but the expectations went down the drain. The dearth of doctors in the PHCs been for four years now and yet the conditions remain the same.” informs locals.

The staff comprises of one doctor, two nurses and one clinical laboratory technician. “At least 10 to 12 member medical staff is essential to practically run the hospital. It is very difficult to treat patients with having just two doctors and without other sufficient medical staff,” said Venkata Mani, doctor. The medical staff available there can only handle the cases of viral infections, given vaccination to children and tests for pregnant women.

“The centre has full-fledged infrastructure to facilitate patients. The center is even accommodated with the required instruments that facilitate to conduct surgeries and possesses labour room of international standards but remained as show pieces as there are no doctors to deal with. Along with high-priced medical instruments, we have six beds and other furniture to meet the demands of the patients,” he added. The expensive infrastructure available in as many primary health centers is left unused as the health centers suffer from shortage of doctors.

The total of 54 primary health centers in Telangana State lack medical practitioners to treat patients. When contacted, District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), said that” We received the GO on 25 April that speaks out the government’s intention to make direct recruitment of professional doctors, nurses and other staff to all 54 PHCs and expect the implementation the proposed GO in the near future.”
