Malakpet: Condemning the decision of Union Government to lease out the Red Fort and other monuments to a private company, the Hyderabad unit of Socialist Party (India) demanded immediate repealing of ‘ApniDharoharApniPahchan’ (Adopt a Heritage) scheme.

Describing the decision as a ‘crime against the nation’, the party leaders including its president (Hyderabad Unit) Mutyala Yadav, vice-president, Gopal Pathange, chairman-legal cell, Advocate Jaya Vindhyala and general secretary, Dr LubnaSarwath alleged that incredible and invaluable heritage monuments are chosen to give ‘brand visibility’ to Corporate companies.

They questioned the handing over of the heritage monuments to inexperienced groups violating all the stipulated norms. “Semi-commercial revenue generation provision is also embedded in the MoU between Government of India and the business houses that is unacceptable,” they stated. The Socialist Party held that the project was against spirit and word of AMASR Act 1958 as well as against Constitution where protection of national heritage as a public property is a duty and not business. “We call upon Government of India to stall the project immediately and call for public perception on the project involving conservation experts, scientists and historians and public as well as political parties,” they added.
