Malkajgiri: The Malkajgiri Colony Welfare Associations’ Samakhya on Monday thanked Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman for issuing orders throwing open all closed roads in the Cantonment Board area and lifting night restrictions in the AOC Centre.

B T Srinivas, general secretary, said that lifting of the curbs was a result of the agitation taken up by the local residents since 2014. He stated that the help rendered by local MP Malla Reddy could’t be overlooked, while recalling that the MP’s meeting with the Cantonment Board officials in New Delhi with a poser ‘whether the residents were living in Pakistan or India, are we not indians’.

This, Srinivasan asserted, had a positive impact and led to the crucial decision by the Defence ministry. He thanked the MP, MLA Kanaka Reddy and MLC Ramchandra Rao for their cooperation in holding discussions with former Defence Minister Manohar Parikar and Sitaraman for finding solutions to the problem.
