Veena and Vani, the conjoined twins who were brought to the state-run children’s home from Niloufer Hospital in 2017 are now turning a new leaf in their lives as the girls would be formally joining the Vengalrao Nagar Government School.

Having skipped class 4 and 6, the intelligent girls passed out in flying colours with 90 per cent in class VII and are now gung-ho on getting admission in Vengalrao Nagar Government School

Till date, the twins have been learning with the help of a teacher and would remain to be taught by teachers at the home but to take the exams and prepare for the boards in future, it was essential to get them formally admitted in a school say authorities.

Chirpy and spontaneous, the twins won the hearts of one and all at the Shishu Vihar. When asked, pat came the reply, one wants to become an engineer and the other a scientist. Securing distinction in class VII at State run Children’s home, come hell or high water, they are determined to pursue a career in the chosen field.

Abreast of the happenings around the world, the twins love watching television and keenly follow political developments. Both are good at Math, Science and Geography. V Ramulu, Regional Joint Director, Women Development and Child Welfare Department, said that the children are very good at grasping things. He said all arrangements including a separate room having well equipped furniture have been made for the duo for their comfortable stay.

Superintendent Sofiya said that the children would be enrolled in Vengalrao Nagar Government School in the coming days but would be taught in their own room. “A well qualified tutor and three care takers who have been appointed by Niloufer Hospital to look after the kids are still continuing their duty at Sishu Vihar on the request of the kids.

The kids are computer savvy. They have learnt MS Word and Ex Cell. They are painters too. The parents of Veena-Vani visit the place every month. The girls have an older and a younger biological sister. They will have regular medical check-ups.

Sofiya wants to take the twin sisters to museum and Zoo Park, provided there is security. She recalls that once while taking them to Osmania Hospital for regular checkup, the girls on sighting buffaloes were excited.

The kids are proud to say that they skipped fourth class and sixth classes. They call one of their caretaker Lakshmi mummy who doubles up as their friend as the kids are restricted to a sterile environment to avoid infection and cannot mingle with others.
