Khairtabad: The Auto Drivers Unions JAC requested the government to reconsider and make the accidental death insurance scheme also applicable in case of permanent disability and natural death of the auto driver. Auto Drivers Unions JAC on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Joint Transport commissioner at RTA office.

The union members claimed that, despite the order of the State government in March, the transport department has not processed the accidental insurance claims for auto drivers so far. There are lakhs of drivers in the State but not even 5 per cent know about this scheme and this is the reason why families of drivers who die do not claim the money.

The union demanded that the government should publicise this scheme so that the families can make their claims in the event of death of the drivers. The government should also give advertisements in the media to create awareness among the driving class both transport and non-transport. Union also said that the government gives compensation to the victims in hit-and-run cases, but nobody is aware about it.

“The Labour Commissioner has submitted the proposal to the government to designate the transport commissioner as master policy holder. “We demand the transport department immediately to take action and see that the families of drivers who died in accidents received aid from the government. We also demand the transport commissioner to immediately designate motor vehicles inspectors as the registering and claim receiving authority and make the governments accident relief scheme a success”, said a union member.
