Rahmatnagar: It has been five days on Wednesday since the street lights near Hanuman Pochamma temple in Rahmatnagar are on 24/7. Your Newspaper The Hans India on Tuesday had published in its pages about the streetlights burning the electricity for more than 48 hrs.

Now it has been over 120 hrs and the authorities have decided to remain in dark on the issue. It is ironic that the Power Discoms spend crores of rupees in creating awareness on saving electricity, as many areas don’t have luxury of even power connection and fulltime power, and the same department fails to install automatic cut-out system based on solar sensors for the streetlights.

A single street light uses 20 watts of power per hour. For 120 hours the power consumption is about 2400 watts. The ten streetlights that are continuously on are burning 24000 watts i.e 24 Kw of electricity. If we consider only day time burning of streetlights then it will be 12Kw of power consumption. With this power a small house in rural areas can get power for 12 days at 1000 watts power consumption per day.
