Necklace road: A 2K Run from the People’s Plaza to Jalvihar was organised on Monday to mark the World Snake Day celebrated by Snake Buddies Foundation intended to create awareness on how the reptiles saved the environment. The organisers appealed to people not to kill snakes if found moving in residential areas, but to inform the foundation’s toll-free number 1800 100 7335. They paid tributes to 400 persons who died of snake-bite in Telangana this year.

Foundation president Preetam said it would conduct snake shows every week in different areas to drive away people’s fear. He said 16 of the 150 foundation members could rescue snakes. Foundation representative Purshotham stated that the rescued snakes would be handed over to the Forest department and left in Srisailam forest. The foundation had already rescued thousands of snakes and left them in forests.
