Manoharabad: The presence of his mind, a farmer saved a train from Tirupati enroute to Amaravati with hundreds of passengers from derailment at Palata village near Palata-Potharam railway station in Manoharabad mandal of Medak district on Wednesday morning.

The farmer Narsimlu who was going to his field with his cattle, found that one of the tracks was broken into two just minutes before the superfast train passes through the route and without any delay, the farmer rushed to the nearby gatekeeper who informed the officials. Then, the alerted officials rushed to the spot and make sure the safety of the track by attaching a joint clamp to it. Then the train was left to pass the glitch with a controlled speed without incident.

Later, the officials repaired the broken track by joining it with gas welding. The officials and the villagers appreciated Narsimlu for his quick wit to save the train from derailment. The Potharam station has been not in use and was abandoned during the Congress reign due to no revenue from the station for some years.
