Banjara Hills: The first robotic rehabilitation hospital of Telangana was inaugurated recently at road number 10, Banjara Hills. New Life Rehab Hospital is using advanced robotics that can perform a number of robotized therapeutic treatments on patients, leveraging both pace and effectiveness of treatment.

Managing Director, Dr Mohammed Masood Ali Khan said, the technology would help recover, treatment for patients who have suffered major multiple traumas, brain injuries, ischemic stroke, intracranial bleeds, or have undergone neuro or spinal surgeries. It is also used on treating senior citizens suffering from various geriatric disorders or were undergoing joint replacements and major surgeries also require rehabilitation to recover, and redefine their strengths to normalcy.

Precision treatment controlled by advanced robotic arms, limbs and other equipment can catalyse recovery time, reduce treatment overheads significantly and leverage mechanical support to affected body parts, which is not easily possible with accuracy and iteration through conventional methods.”

The advantage with robotic physiotherapy treatments is that robots can adapt to any individual’s state very easily, provide specific feedback to patients to enhance their movements, and record movement data such as position, velocity and force of joints. This can significantly compensate for the physical capabilities of the patients and treatment can be completed in nearly 50% shorter span than conventional physiotherapy.

For patients suffering from gait abnormality, disorders caused by stroke, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury this robot will control individual body parts, enabling patient to be active during the procedure. Cardiovascular, pulmonary, Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neuron diseases, polyneuropathy and muscular dystrophy can be treated with these machines.
