Uppal: The residents living close to Nalla Cheruvu are a worried lot as a bus stop is being planned by the civic body on the banks of the lake. The lake is on the Hyderabad-Warangal highway. Surender, a local said, “The lake has to be protected. It was once 100 acres, now it has been reduced to just 30 acres. There is n o need for a bus stop here.”
Fruit vendors too say that the bus stop would affect their business. Ramuluamma, a fruit seller says, “We would be pushed away if the bus stop comes up.” “There is no proper maintenance for the lake since years, so if this lake changes into bus stop it is benefited to the locals and there commuters will not have traffic problem” says Ramakrishna owner of a general store.
Sabri who sells fruits near the lake says, “Officials said, this lake will further change into a bus stop which will be the second biggest bus stop in Uppal and construction work may start soon”. Some are of the opinion that a bus stop would help in away; people would stop dumping garbage in the lake. People are suffering from health problems already.”
