Team Bakrid gains momentum
After receiving backing from both government and nongovernment organisations Team Bakrid hit to top gear in terms of generating awareness amongst masses not only in the city, but neighbouring districts in Telangana about maintaining hygiene during the second biggest festival of the Muslims, EidulAzha
Hyderabad: After receiving backing from both government and non-government organisations ‘Team Bakrid’ hit to top gear in terms of generating awareness amongst masses not only in the city, but neighbouring districts in Telangana about maintaining hygiene during the second biggest festival of the Muslims, Eid-ul-Azha.
Apart from generating awareness through social media campaigns, the Team Bakrid which comprises representation of about 20 NGOs is on fast track mode through distribution of thousands of pamphlets and setting up of banners at prominent places. The team members have already roped in schools and colleges besides communicating and getting assurances of cooperation from both police and municipal officials. “We came up with the idea about a decade ago and started unofficially, as Islam ordains cleanliness as one of the facets. Later, we started getting support from different quarters as NGOs began joining the campaign as each year passed. One of the intentions from our side is that we do not become a cause of inconvenience to our fellow citizens from other religions,” said the team’s convenor, Mohammed Zia-ur-Rahman.
Chief patron, sponsor of this year’s Team Bakrid, Syed Anisuddin of Sahayata Trust, welcomed the idea and team spirit of the youth about maintaining cleanliness during the festival. He called upon the team members to rope in everyone for the good cause so that they feel responsibility of maintaining hygiene. “This kind of activity being taken up particularly by the youth sends good message, as it also reflects the character of those who are involved,” he said.
Youth Welfare, Telangana Welfare Council, Janta Rajyam Movement, Better India, Peace & Development Society, Ghulam-e-Rasool Milad Committee, Al Harmain Charitable Trust, Crescent Junior College, Jamat-e-Noor-e-Madani, Mass Foundation, Social Workers, Youth Committee, Mass Foundation, Sunshine Foundation, Seerath Committee, Muslim Minority Peace & Welfare Association, Ark Organisation, APMWS Sneha Ghar, Qamar Education & Welfare Society, Telangana Disabled Welfare Society, Huda Youth Club and Mahboobnagar Times have already started taking active part on ground for the past three weeks.
This year’s banner was released by Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy and Mohammed Saleem, Chairman TS Wakf Board. The Team Barkid also garnered endorsement from other representatives of Government including Chairman Telangana Khadi and Village Industries Board, Mohammed Yousuf Zahid and Telangana State Minorities Finance Corporation (TSMFC) Syed Akbar Hussein. Yousuf Zahid described the team effort as great contribution to the humanity, as it was need of the hour. He said when everyone was in the mood of celebrations on Barkrid it was a rare fete that the team on ground clears all the wastage. While Akbar Hussien felt that the efforts by the team would help develop understanding between different communities generating communal harmony.
