Tandur: Rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister and statesman Atal Bihari Vajpayee garlanding his portrait at the condolence meeting held at Bhadreshwara Chowk here on Friday.

People recalled his eminent services to the country and their eyes became wet with tears while remembering him. Several have recalled that they had seen Vajpayee when he arrived here during his stint in RSS as pracharak.

He arrived here by road from Chincholi in Karnataka to take part in the BJP meeting held on March 12, 1982, BJP senior leader Bal Reddy recalls. He was the chief guest.

He appreciated Tandur leaders by praising them “SebashTandur BJP leaders” overwhelmed by collection of Rs 40,000 by them towards donation to the party.

At the huge turnout of the people, his enthusiasm knew no bounds and addressed them with enthusiasm. BJP leader of the yore Sattaiah Goud commented that it was only possible for a leader of his stature to lead a simple life in spite of his elevation to the office of the prime ministers from the ranks of an ordinary party worker.

Joshi Sarveshwar Sharma, BantaramPrabhulingam ant they BJYM president Bali Shivakumar were also among those who met Vajpeyee.
