Meerpet: The Telangana Village Revenue Assistants Joint Action Committee (JAC) has threatened to lay siege to the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration’s (CCLA) office if the problems of 21,000 VRAs across the State were not solved by August 31. The VRAs also held out a threat to go on a strike soon.

In a representation to CCLA on Tuesday, the JAC stated that VRAs were not getting suitable pay or promotions. Even those VRAs who were eligible for being active in conducting comprehensive family surveys in the last four years and in implementing various welfare schemes were being neglected, the representation said. They were undergoing severe stress because of lack of job security. They alleged that the retired VRAs were not getting pensionary benefits.

Committee leaders Vanguri Ramulu, Vinjamuri Eshwar and Gaddam Rajaiah recalled that the assurances given by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on February 24 last year were yet to be honoured. They wanted the government to hold discussions with the JAC to solve the problems and to implement the assurances given by KCR.

The representation listed the VRAs’ demands as: Direct recruitment, regularisation of services, allotment of double bedroom houses, extension of revised DA to Rs 500 and TA to Rs 300, issue of GO on payment of enhanced funeral expenses of Rs 20,000, payment of minimum pay of Rs 24,000, declaring every revenue village as a cluster, giving promotion as VROs, increasing the promotion quota from 30 to 70 per cent, allotment of health cards, sanction of retirements benefits and provision of jobs to successors.
