baldiaHyderabad: As declared earlier, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Employees' Union (GHMEU), the recognised workers' body in the municipal corporation, has decided to up the ante from June 18. Besides launching of the indefinite strike, the union stated that all works in the crucial sanitation and entomology wings including sweeping of roads, garbage transportation would be completely stopped in all 18 circles of the corporation. The union already served strike notice on Minister for Municipal Administration, M Maheedhar Reddy to this effect. It may be mentioned here that GHMEU launched a 108 day strike on March 7 for fulfillment of their long pending grievances including house sites to permanent employees, a super-specialty hospital, health cards for their family members, entering the outsourcing employees working for the past 10-15 years on the Non Muster Roll(NMR) list, promotion for eligible employees. According to union chief U Gopal, around 30,000 employees including contract staff would participate in the strike from June 18 onwards. He stated that this decision was taken after numerous representations and meetings with GHMC Commissioner and even Municipal Minister failed to evoke any positive response to their demands. Gopal informed that they followed rules in serving strike notice well in advance on the government.
