Hyderabad: Former ministers G Vijayarama Rao, A Chandrasekhar and suspended TRS leader Raghunandan joined the Congress party in New Delhi, on Tuesday, in the presence of AICC general secretary incharge of state affairs, Digvijay Singh.
Talking to media after joining the Congress party, Vijayarama Rao said that they had taken the decision to strengthen the Congress party, since it had decided to create separate Telangana State which has been the aspiration of the people of the region for over five decades.
Rao while thanking AICC president Sonia Gandhi for taking a bold decision, said that the TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, who had offered to merge the party with Congress, should keep up his promise. Chandrasekhar said that bifurcation of the State will benefit the Harijans and Girijans in Telangana region. Appealing to the Seemandhra people to cooperate in the process of bifurcation, he said it would also benefit the Dalits in Seemandhra region.
These leaders first met the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at AP Bhavan and thereafter had a meeting with Digvijay Singh.
It may be mentioned here that Vijayarama Rao was unhappy with the TRS leadership for refusing to field him either from Warangal Lok Sabha constituency or from Ghanpur Assembly seat in the next elections.
