Woman scribes take out rally against Mumbai gang-rape

About 200 woman journalists working in print and electronic media on Monday took out a rally from Molla statue to an end of Tank Bund, condemning gang-rape on a woman photojournalist in Mumbai. The rally was organised by Network of Women in Media, India (NIMI). Rebuking the incident, former MLC Chukka Ramiah demanded the government to punish the perpetuators at the earliest. He opined that the violence against women be condemned.

The rally was organised by Network of Women in Media, India (NIMI). Rebuking the incident, former MLC Chukka Ramiah demanded the government to punish the perpetuators at the earliest. He opined that the violence against women be condemned.
“The violent incidents reflect deteriorated values of our society. Hence, we need to incorporate high values in the society to ensure respect for women,” he asserted. Speakers expressed sorrow over the tragic incident. They opined that the women were not offered better security even after recurrence of gang-rapes across the country. They demanded enhanced protection for working professionals in the media. Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) president Sandhya, Vasanth Kannabhiran, Sajaya, Mallepalli Laxmaiah, IJU leader Srinivas Reddy and Amar participated in the rally.
