Hyderabad: Mincing no words, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leadership has made it categorically clear that it will stand up for Samaikyandhra. The party has finally joined the frontlines of the fight against bifurcation odf the state. Just a day before the launch of the bus yatra of her daughter Sharmila, party honorary president Vijayamma, in an open letter addressed to the people of the state, made the united Andhra stand very clear. The Yatra scheduled to take off from Tirupati has been christined as the Samaikya Sankharavam, thus identifying it with the people up in arms against bifurcation in all the 13 districts of the Seemandhra region. Vijayamma stated YSRCP is one of the three principal parties finally left in the State with the integrationist stand – the other two being the CPI(M) and the MIM.
Both the Congress and the BJP were now batting for bifurcation as it had been the case with the TRS and the CPI. She recalled that fervent appeals made to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu for joining the combine of the integrationist parties had fallen on his deaf ears. Naidu did not pay heed to the “pleas made by us through an open letter to withdraw his 2008 letter on Telangana and ask his party MLAs and MPs “to quit so as to stonewall the advances made by the ruling Congress in the direction of bifurcating the state.
Naidu also remained unmindful of the fact that the future generations would not forgive him in case of failing to rise to the occasion.” She recalled that all her party MLA and MPs had resigned from their posts in protest against the injustice meted out the Seemandhra region. She too sat on fast at Guntur, but it was thwarted by the state. Even the YSRCP president Jagan too went on fast within the four walls of the jail denouncing the process. But the police forcibly ended his fast by administering fluids. Undeterred by the odds, the YSRCP had finally tasked its leader Sharmila with the responsibility of spearheading the Samaikhyshankaravam yatra as part of the same mission.
The bifurcation decision of the Congress party was prompted by its own hunger for voters and seats. The Congress leadership had asked the Seemandhra people to build their own new capital. But by dividing the state without thinking about the well being of the state would leave the people with no drinking water. Saline water wells right from Kuppam in Chittor district to Srikakulam on the east coast would be no option to quench their big thirst, she quipped.
