Hyderabad: In a day of quick developments, Justice Nooty Ram Mohan Rao of the AP High Court on Tuesday directed the immediate release of a set of advocates in protest and in support of the formation of the State of Telangana. A Giridhar Rao, president of the AP High Court Bar Association, was before the judge with a hand written writ petition seeking immediate release of a set of advocates. Events moved swiftly around 1.30 pm with advocates for Samikyandhra opposing the plea and holding a protest against the incidents that happened in the court premises and near it on Friday.

The police in waiting swooped in and caused what seemed preventive arrests of lawyers from both groups. Meanwhile, entertaining the petition, the judge directed the police to release them after taking down the name and details of the arrested lawyers. They were all released by about 4 pm. The arrest gained significance in view of the fact that the lawyers were scheduled to meet the Chief Justice in connection with the incidents that happened on Friday last. In a meeting that took place later in the chambers of Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sen Gupta, the chief Justice appealed for peace from both wings of the divided Bar.

He made clear that they could not carry out protests within the prohibited area. The CJ also appealed to both sections to ensure that their ‘protest time tables’ did not clash. The CJ also appreciated the Bar Association President for the initiative. The meeting was attended among others by former AG CV Mohan Reddy, former Bar Council Chairman Rajinder Reddy, T supporters Raghunath , Jyoth Kiran. For Samikyandhra cause included Sr Adv. SR Ashok , MS Prasad , Bar Counsel member Chidambaram and Sesharajyam among others.
