New Delhi/Hyderabad: Telangana issue came up for discussion at the Congress Core Group meeting on Friday. Union Defence Minister A K Antony briefed the meeting on the progress of the Committee headed by him to sort out the fall-out of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) decision on the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. The meeting is said to have recognised the need to look into the concerns of the Seemandhra people before taking forward the process of bifurcation.

According to sources, Antony submitted an interim report on the concerns of Seemandhra people, arising out of the proposed bifurcation. He reportedly told the committee that the status of Hyderabad, sharing of revenue and sharing of river waters between the two proposed states need to be resolved before moving forward in the matter.

He is further said to have told the committee that the status of Hyderabad is another issue that has become a major issue. If this issue is sorted out then the Seemandhra leaders will not have objection for bifurcation.

He reportedly told the committee that the leaders from the region had different suggestions on status of Hyderabad. There is also a growing pressure from Union Ministers and Congress MPs from Seemandhra region not to make any forward movement on the formation of Telangana till the concerns of the people of Seemandhra are addressed.
