According to the order, the first language and English subjects will now have two papers each, i.e. first language paper-I and II and English paper-I and II. This will replace the single paper pattern which has been the norm so far.
Each paper for summative assessment would be for 40 marks and the duration of the exam would be two-and-a-half hours each. An additional 15 minutes would be provided for reading the question paper. The government has however decided to have a single paper for Hindi.
For all the other subjects, 80 marks would be considered for summative assessment and 20 marks for formative assessment.
The order also stated that 40 marks would be allotted to both paper-I and paper-II for mathematics, science and social studies.
The government has done away with the prescribed pass marks in internal examinations and in non-language subjects. However, 35 per cent would be the pass marks for these subjects. “A student who secures 28 marks in the theory paper has to secure at least seven marks in the internal examination to qualify in the exam,” an official of Telangana SCERT said.
Henceforth revaluation would not be allowed and students can only apply for recounting and re-verification.
The headmasters/principals of the schools concerned should verify the marks awarded by the teacher for the work done by the students under formative assessment.
“The headmasters/principals should enclose a certificate with the co-signature of the correspondent of school, in case of private schools, to the list of students’ marks under internals and co-curricular activities and submit the same to the director, government of examinations. All records should be preserved in the institution for verification of the authorities till the end of next academic year. If internal marks awarded by the institution are not in paper, action would be initiated against such institutions and they may face de-recognisation,” the order said.
The government has barred students from appearing in SSC examination without any school study. However, candidates can appear through alternate system like national or state open school system.
The State government has decided to do away with the composite courses. “A student is supposed to learn only three languages but in case of composite courses under regular scheme of SSC examination, the students are studying four languages. Three languages formula is being followed in the State, hence all composite courses may be dispensed,” the order said.
Earlier the director of government examinations stated that there were no teachers for Arabic and Persian languages, a few existing Sanskrit teachers were instructed to teach Telugu.
