3D printing encouraging mass-production

ALL Ladies League (ALL) organised a seminar on ‘Strategic Supremacy: How you can create growth, wealth and power through spheres of influence’ with Prof. Richard D’Aveni, professor of strategy, Dartmouth College, at Hotel Taj Deccan.

Over 200 business captains and socialites participated in the session.

“Power and money has gone to China because of its ability to produce goods in bulk. With 3D printing ushering in a new era, it will soon change the world the way goods are manufactured on a mass scale. With 3D printing, mass customisation is also possible.

China will have to give up on being the mass-manufacturing powerhouse of the world. The strategy that had given it such a political heft won’t serve the country in the future,” observed Prof. Richard.

D’Aveni spoke at length on 3D printing and manufacturing.

“Industrial scale 3D printers have for a long time threatened to change the face of traditional assembly line manufacturing. Though it started in a small way, it has really kicked-off a revolution. Google's Project Ara would create a line of highly-customisable modular smartphones that offer consumers both functional and aesthetic choices on their device.

Project Ara has received a lot of media attention over the last several months, as Google sets out to change the way smartphones are made and sold,” Prof. Richard said.
