Vayupuri Air Force Officers Association celebrated its 52nd formation day on Sunday in their office premises at Sainikpuri. The Air Force Officers Co-operative Housing Society (AFOCHS) is popularly known as Vayupuri. It was formed in January 1963 along with neighbouring Armed Forces Services Colonies.

The Air Force Officers Co-operative Housing Society (AFOCHS) is popularly known as Vayupuri. It was formed in January 1963 along with neighbouring Armed Forces Services Colonies.

The programme commenced with devotional songs sung by Bhavans teacher Meenakshi and Hindi and Telugu songs rendered by retired banker Padmanabhan. Octogenarian members, veteran Air Vice Marshal EG Salins and DRK Rao were felicitated by the society president Wg Cdr IPC Reddi. Bhavanalaya, School of Music and Dance, promoted by Dr Vattikota Yadagiracharya, presented a series of dance recitals. Prizes were given away to the performers with a cash gift of Rs 5,000 to the dance school.

Cultural programmes held as part of the celebration

Wg Cdr IPC Reddi, president, said, “Our colony is one of the oldest residential colonies of the Armed Force Officers in the twin cities.” The event was attended by senior Air Force officers Air Marshal PK Puri, Air Vice Marshal ES Lala, Maj. Gen. MR Mohan Chander, former president of the society; Wg Cdr TJ Reddy, President Air Force Association (AP & TS); Maj. MN Reddy, ex-Secretary; members of the present managing committee and others, accompanied by their families and children.
