South India’s biggest goshala at Shamshabad
Satyam Shivam Sundaram Gau Seva Kendra, south India’s biggest goshala, was inaugurated by Dhram Raj Ranka, founder of the goshala. The goshala is located at Burjugadda Thanda, Peddashapur, Shamshabad. “Due to the shortage of space at the existing facility -- Satyam Shivam Sundaram Go Nivas -- at Gaganpahad near Shamshabad, a new facility has been created in a generously donated land.
Spread over 5 acres, the goshala can house 5,000 cows
Satyam Shivam Sundaram Gau Seva Kendra, south India’s biggest goshala, was inaugurated by Dhram Raj Ranka, founder of the goshala. The goshala is located at Burjugadda Thanda, Peddashapur, Shamshabad. “Due to the shortage of space at the existing facility -- Satyam Shivam Sundaram Go Nivas -- at Gaganpahad near Shamshabad, a new facility has been created in a generously donated land.
The sprawling goshala has seven cowsheds, two godowns, four ponds, two borewells, an office and a power house with backup generator. The goshala is spread over five acres of donated land, and can house 5,000 cows. Presently, only 3 acres has been developed,” informed Dharam Raj Rank Jain, the 73-year-old jeweller who was instrumental in setting up the Bhagyanagar Go Seva Sadan at Lower Tank Bund in 1991.
“Right now 650 cows are taking shelter in the facility. More will be shifted from Gaganpahad, which is housing 4,500 cows beyond its capacity,” Dharam Raj Ranka added. “We rescue cows from slaughterhouses and provide them good conditions to live in. Two veterinary doctors and a hospital at Gaganpahad are there to tend to the animals.
The cows here aren’t milked. The total milk is left for the calves to maintaining zero infant mortality rate,” informed Ranka. Plans are afoot to construct a veterinary hospital with modern facilities, a guest house, and a park. Right now 650 cows are taking shelter in the facility.
