The Hyderabad Literary Festival 2015 scheduled to take place between January 23 and 26 at Hyderabad Public School, egumpet will have 40 sessions that include Javed Akhtar reciting his collection of Urdu poetry, Dastan Goi (traditional storytelling art) performance and a panel discussion of Mahesh Bhatt with Leela Samson on “Cultural and Creative Pluralism in Modern Day India.

The Hyderabad Literary Festival 2015 scheduled to take place between January 23 and 26 at Hyderabad Public School, egumpet will have 40 sessions that include Javed Akhtar reciting his collection of Urdu poetry, Dastan Goi (traditional storytelling art) performance and a panel discussion of Mahesh Bhatt with Leela Samson on “Cultural and Creative Pluralism in Modern Day India.” In addition, to draw attention to linguistic rights, HLF 2015 will have a special session on India’s endangered languages.

The guest nation will be Poland and the language in focus is Urdu. This year the fest will feature writers with different abilities. A special session to mark the centenary of Vattikota Alwar Swamy is also included,” shared T Vijay Kumar, one of the directors of the festival and professor, Osmania University.

Amita Desai, Festival Director and Director, Goethe Zentrum, Hyderabad said, “This time internationally acclaimed veteran actor Tom Alter will act in the lead role of the musical play ‘Parchhayiyaan’ based on the life and work of the great lyricist and poet Sahir Ludhianvi. And, we are celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi we are showcasing an interactive installation on Mahatma Gandhi and his life. Parnab Mukherjee will be there for the unbound celebration.”

“Kalpana Kannabiran will launch her book on ‘Women and law’. BP Jeevan Reddy Justice will be present to release the book. Writer and social activist Indira Jaising and Padmini Swaminathan will be there in discussion. An exhibition of Urdu calligraphy, “Happy writing” will evolve out of a jamming session with calligraphers,” she said.

The other two directors Surya Rao, Managing Editor, Muse India and Ajay Gandhi, Founder Trustee, Manthan Foundation said, “The festival is growing fast compared to last 5 years. We are blooming fully.” On the aspect of a permanent venue for HLF, they said,

“We got many venues in hand but we are still thinking on which one to select. Because, we started from the outskirts of the city and reached the centre of the city or you can say, we started from the University and reached the School. We may finalise something very soon. We also have the option of Taramati Baradari but it’s in outskirts, so we are undecided.”
