Cannon could have been washed away from Golconda: Qayyum
The six-feet-long cannon that was found at Nayapul near the Musi River on Wednesday must have got washed down from Golconda Fort in the year 1687, says MA Qayyum, former Deputy Director, Department of Archaeology and Museums. According to MA Qayyum, the first three to four months of 1687 witnessed drought and the one lakh strong Aurangzeb\'s army had to again bear the brunt of nature as there was heavy downpour after April.

“The cannon must have been washed down from Golconda Fort. Such were the rains that even camps were washed down. Even the Gods did want Aurangzeb to conquer the impregnable fort,” says the historian.There are several cannons at the Golconda Fort belonging to Qutub Shahis, Asaf Jahis and the Mughals.
The cannon which has a four-inch mouth is made of bronze. Qayyum says that in all probability the cannon is of the Mughals as it is made of bronze. The Telangana State Archaeology and Museum department officials say that the cannon of bronze has floral designs and other ornamentation. Aurangzeb camped at Fateh Maidan in 1687 and captured Golconda after a nine-month long siege with one lakh strong army.
