Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) on Wednesday removed more than 50 encroachments on the main road leading towards the Bowenpally Market Yard to facilitate road widening in the area. There have been numerous complaints from locals and the traffic police stating that the junction near the market yard was a bottleneck as it is constantly encroached by fruit vendors, mutton and chicken shops and other petty vendors.

A Gopala Krishna Dass, assistant engineer, ward no. 6, said, “This is the third time we are clearing encroachments at the market yard. We are going to lay roads to widen the roads. The existing 50 feet road will be widened to 90 feet for the convenience of commuters. These type of encroachments would be removed in a phased manner at all important junctions in all the eight wards of the SCB.”

Majority of the vendors however claimed that they were not given any notice to enable them relocate elsewhere.
