The corporation has set a target of Rs 1,500 crore for 2014-15. With just another 45 days to go for the last date of property tax remittance, the GHMC has already collected Rs 628 crore.

The corporation has set a target of Rs 1,500 crore for 2014-15. With just another 45 days to go for the last date of property tax remittance, the GHMC has already collected Rs 628 crore.

The crackdown on Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, attaching 15 properties at Tilak Road and SBI Karwan branch on Thursday is sending across a strong message to all potential defaulters. The Corporation is working on the feedback given by a special teams spread across the 18circles deputed to identify the defaulters, including the big ones.

Additional Commissioner (Revenue) S Hari Krishna said, “20,461 properties were paying residential property tax despite using the premises for money-making purposes thereby depriving us of almost Rs 18 crore.” About 4,165 were brought into the property net this year. Till date 5,681 notices have been issued.

Overall there are 13.64 lakh taxable properties in the GHMC limits with a few hundred likely to be added. In 2012-13, the property tax collection was Rs 747 crore, in 2013-14 it rose to Rs 1,022 crore. A senior official of GHMC said that last year people paid up to Rs 300 crore in the last couple of weeks. In East Zone it rose by 18 per cent, South by 14 per cent, Central by 8 per cent, West by 17 per cent and North by 12 per cent.
