Telangana State’s best woman boxer, Nikhat Zareen, representing Osmania University (OU), proved her mettle yet again while winning the 51kgs gold in the All India Inter-University Boxing Championship that was hosted by Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar. Displaying her technical superiority with clinical precision, Zareen, who now trains in Hyderabad under eminent coach Chiranjeevi, out-punched Ritu of MDU, Rohtak, with an overwhelming 3-0 verdict in the final.

The former World Junior Champion, and one of the country’s leading hopes in women boxing, has notched up several significant laurels in the recent past. The more notable international triumphs include agold medal at the third Nations Cup International Boxing Tournament held in Novi Sad, Serbia, and a silver finish at AIBA World Youth Boxing Championship in 2013.

Soon after her latest achievement, Zareen said she was ‘excited and all pumped for the future challenges in the new season.’ However, she did not participate in the recently held National Games in Kerala as just prior to the mega event the Telangana State boxing body split into two. Brand ambassador for her native Nizamabad district, Nikhat Zareen was rewarded, along with Olympians, with handsome cash incentives by the State government in recognition of her feats a couple of months back.
