Union Labour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya felicitated women who excelled in various fields on the occasion. The Union Minister said that women will reach a position of taking decisions on their own only when they receive education and are empowered through government interventions. “The Labour Ministry has already put in place several Acts like Factories Act, Maternity Benefits Act, Equal Remuneration Act among others,” he said.

Nizamabad MP K Kavitha suggested that in the future men’s commitment should be sought for women’s empowerment. Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy warned that continuing female foeticide will endanger the human race. Rajya Sabha member Gundu Sudharani referred to President Pranab Mukherjee’s exhortation that there will be no change in the outlook towards women in spite of all the legal provisions, as long as there is no change in attitude of people in general.

Nizamabad girl Malavath Poorna, who conquered Mount Everest last year, wanted the State government to provide water and sanitation facilities at all schools.BJP leaders Jeevitha, BJP State Mahila Morcha president Padmaja Reddy, Uppala Sharada (BJP), Kuchipudi dancers Deepika Reddy and Ghantasala Parvathi, sportswomen Jwala Gutta and PV Sindhu, journalists Uma Sudhir and Manjulatha Kalanidhi, and social activist Karuna Gopal also spoke on the occasion.
