The department of neuro sciences at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in association with Brain & Spine Society organised a continuous medical education programme for the neuro nurses on Sunday. The programme was inaugurated by KIMS MD Dr Bollineni Bhaskar Rao at KIMS.

The department of neuro sciences at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in association with Brain & Spine Society organised a continuous medical education programme for the neuro nurses on Sunday. The programme was inaugurated by KIMS MD Dr Bollineni Bhaskar Rao at KIMS.

Lead by neuro surgeon Dr Manas Panigrahi, the programme aimed at improving patient care by imparting knowledge and understanding of various conditions among the people involved in the management of neuro patients. Many prominent neuroscientists, neurosurgeons and neuro intensivists took part in the day-long programme, along with participating nurses and other staff.

The programme included discussions on brain neuro anatomy, neuro phisiology and celebral blood flow, brain tumors, surgery for brain tumors and recent advances in tumor surgery and neuro navigation, intra cranial aneurysms and avms, treatment of aneurysms and avms and role of ICG video angiography, treatment for hydrocephalus, scrubbing techniques and prevention of cross infection in ICU.

Commenting on the importance of the programme Dr Manas said, “Neuro nurses play an important role in surgeries. Given the complex nature of these surgeries, the nurses have to be in sync with basics in the maintenance of spine instruments and other equipment.”
