Bhavya Sharma is a physiotherapist by profession and an artist by passion. A Delhiite to the core, marriage brought the 27-year-old to Hyderabad last year. That's probably the best that has happened to her yet. After moving to the city, Bhavya hunted for a job as a physiotherapist but failed to do so. "I am a post graduate in physiotherapy and have a year's experience. But whom ever I approached, I was told that I was overqualified," she rued.

Instead of being bogged down, the rejections motivated Bhavya to change course. "I took to painting to kill boredom. My husband and mother-in-law liked what they saw and gave me a boost," she recalls. What's interesting is that Bhavya was never into full time painting since childhood. "I began around four years ago. I was a decent artist in school and college but decided to practice oil paintings when I got a break during my Masters. I used to gift paintings to friends and family members. But I got into full-fledged painting only last year," she says.

"You know how parents are. With a focus on career, I never really gave it a thought," she adds. Little did she know that she would have her own exhibit one day! "When people close to me began appreciating my work, I wanted to gauge the response from the world outside. And luckily I had encouragement at home too. I am glad that people who came to the gallery appreciated my efforts. It feels nice," shares an elated Bhavya.

Called 'Serene', the theme of her exhibit is nature and uses a melange of vivid colours for a soothing effect. "I love painting landscapes and reflections. They are my personal favourite. I am trying to improve my craft and would like to do abstract painting and portraits next. I will have another exhibit soon," says Bhavya who has already sold one painting and has six others booked through the display which will be till March 20 at Beyond Coffee. Meanwhile, she's overwhelmed by all the adulation she has been receiving. But of all the compliments, the best one, Bhavya feels, is people taking selfies with her paintings! "Isn't that awesome?" she signs off.
