Of the six divisions of South Central Railway (SCR), three are in Andhra Pradesh at Guntakal, Vijayawada and Guntur. Works of seven new lines with a length of 811 km have been completed in the State. Among the new line works, Phase-I of Yerraguntla-Nossam (50 km) work has been completed and goods traffic has started, Phase-II of Nossam- Banaganapalli with a distance of 45 km is nearing completion and will be opened for traffic in January 2016. In Phase-III of Banaganapalli-Madduru-Nandyala with a distance of 31 km, engine rolling has been completed between Banaganapalli-Madduruad and engine rolling will be done in the remaining portion shortly.


The Kotipalli-Narsapur project was sanctioned in 2000-01 and 85 per cent of its work has been completed. The length of the project is 57 km. The completed stretches are Phase-1 between Kotipalli-Amalapuram with a length of 12.43 km, phase-II between Amalapuram-Razole with a distance of 29 km and phase-III between Razole-Narsapur with a distance of 16 km.
The Nadikudi –Srikalahasthi project of 309 km was sanctioned in 2011-12 and the land acquisition details for the entire length have been submitted to the State government and joint measurements for a distance of 56 km for Guntur district was completed and work is in progress for the remaining portion in Prakasam and Nellore districts. A senior official of SCR said that the Obulavariplaem-Krishnapatnam project that was sanctioned in 2005-06 was prestigious with a length of 113 km with the project cost of Rs 930 crore. The work is scheduled to be completed in two phases between Venkatachalam-Krishnapatnam 20.27 km and Obulavaripalli- Venkatachalam for a distance of 92.72 km being executed by RVNL, Chennai.

Lokanadham said that though the tribals have been demanding cancellation of GO 97, the government has been lukewarm. “The State government is yet to compensate the losses suffered by the tribal farmers in the last year Hudhud cyclone. The farmers suffered damages to their houses in Modarasola, Chittamgondi, Raktakandi, Domalajoru, Paulmanulavalasa, Sunkarametta, Boiguda, and Piribanda. The government is yet to construct model colonies which were promised by the CM,” he added.
