No respite for city’s drenched denizens
Hyderabad is in for heavy rain for the next three days, according to weather office. Malkajgiri, Alwal, Serlingampally, Kukatpally, Nizampet and Qutubullapur are among the areas which are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall.

Though the day was comparatively dry, rain lashed several areas in the city from Friday evening. With no signs of water receding in some of the worst-affected areas like Bandari layout in Nizampet and with the possibility of the Turka lake being breached, the GHMC officials and mayor B Ram Mohan appealed people to vacate the place and move into rehabilitation centres. These colonies continue to be in knee-deep water for the third consecutive day.
As residents were facing serious problems like shortage of drinking water and essential commodities like milk and food, several organisations came forward to supply food packets. The GHMC supplied drinking water through tankers in some places. But complaints of officials negligence also poured in from many other areas like Malkajgiri, East Anand Bagh and Nacharam.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who is in New Delhi spoke to the Chief Secretary, Minister for Municipal Administration K T Rama Rao and other officials. He asked them to take help from NDRF and Army.
He also asked the Chief Secretary to send a detailed report on the rain situation. MAUD Minister K T Rama Rao held a review meeting with the GHMC mayor, Commissioner and ministers from the city. In fact, most of the city ministers went round the waterlogged areas till 3.30 am on Friday to assess the situation. According to KTR, GHMC has arranged 10,000 food packets and has opened about 15 medical camps. He said biscuit packets and milk was also distributed in many of the affected areas.
He also assured that the GHMC would complete the repair of damaged roads in about two months’ time. Minister for Health C Laxma Reddy said that they have pressed 15 mobile health camps into service consisting of a doctor and supporting staff in each of camps. While Malkajgiri MLA C Kanaka Reddy claimed that they were running medical camps for past three days, a doctor at a medical camp in Alwal told The Hans India that they had started the medical camp only on Friday morning in Alwal. “We are providing all the basic medicines and bandages free of cost. If a patient is serious we refer them to government hospital,” the doctor said.
