Washington: Asia's richest man and Hong Kong-based telecommunications firm Hutchison Whampoa's CEO Li Ka-shing is set to purchase Britain's second-biggest wireless carrier O2 for 15 billion dollars.

According to the Verge, the successful purchase of O2 from its current owner Spanish firm Telefonica will help Ka-shing create UK's largest mobile group.
Ka-shing currently owns another major cell phone provider Three in the UK.
Hutchinson Whampoa will receive more than 31 million subscribers by combining Three and O2.
The largest cell phone provider EE in the UK is also in its takeover calls at the moment.
The deal between O2 and Hutchinson Whompoa will be decided in Brussels.
