The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday said that more than 700 Indian nationals have been evacuated from strife-torn Yemen and 350 Indian nationals have come back home.

"We have been able to evacuate more than 700 Indian nationals from Yemen and 350 have come back home," said Syed Akbaruddin, MEA spokesperson.
"Around 2000-2500 Indian nationals wish to come back and we hope to significantly enhance evacuation efforts," he added.
Akbaruddin asserted that if all goes well, we will be able to begin air evacuation from Sana.
We intend subject to receiving all clearances to repatriate 500 Indian nationals from Sana to Djibouti," said Akbaruddin.
More than 300 Indian nationals were evacuated from Yemeni port city of Al Hudaydah through sea route on Thursday. The Government stepped up its efforts to get clearance for air sorties to bring back Indians from Sanaa.
Earlier on Thursday, Akbaruddin said that the INS Sumitra was dispatched to Al Hudaydah to pull out the Indians from there. They will reach Djibouti today and then will be flown back to India.
