They did not give a possible motive for the killing. Saldana Moreles worked for a radio station called "La Ke Buena". He had been shot in several parts of his body, said Oaxaca prosecutor Joaquin Carrillo Ruiz. His body was found next to a white pickup truck with no licence plates.

In drug cartel-plagued Mexico, Veracruz is considered the most dangerous state in which to be a reporter. From 2000 to September 2014, 82 journalists were killed in Mexico, according to Reporters without Borders.
