US Secretary of State John Kerry was to be released Friday from the Boston hospital where he was recovering from a fractured femur suffered nearly two weeks ago while cycling in France, the State Department said.

A State Department note to media said only that Kerry would be discharged from the Massachusetts General Hospital in the afternoon and return to his home in Boston.

There was no word on when he might return to Washington, or when he was likely to resume his schedule of international travel.

The 71-year-old Kerry broke his right femur May 31 in a fall on his bicycle in the French Alps during a working visit to Geneva for talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tehran's nuclear program.

He was flown home and underwent surgery in Boston June 2. In daily updates, State Department officials have assured he continued to work and call his foreign counterparts.

On Tuesday, Kerry tweeted that he was "feeling good" and posted a photograph showing him seated in a chair, resting his right leg and speaking on the phone.

The State Department has held out hope he will be able to go to Europe at the end of the month for final negotiations of the historic Iran talks.

For the moment, Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been standing in for Kerry at official meetings.
