The White House has confirmed that US President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin would meet during the latter's visit to New York to attend the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly ( UNGA) next week.


According to The Washington Times, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said that the meeting would take place at Putin's request and Obama considers Ukraine crisis to be the top agenda.

Russian officials said that the meeting would take place on Monday in New York but according to Earnest, the date has not yet been fixed.

There are also speculations that Obama will discuss Russia's military buildup in Syria with Putin.
