Kabul: At least 10 abducted passengers have been rescued by the Afghan security forces during an operation in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province.

The passengers were rescued during a night raid in Shina Tapa area last night, reports the Khaama Press.

According to reports, the three Taliban insurgents who were keeping the hostages were also killed.

Meanwhile, operations are underway to release of eight others still in Taliban custody.

The Taliban insurgents killed at least 17 passengers after abducting nearly 200 in the yesterday.

According to the security officials the Taliban insurgents kidnapped the passengers from four buses, three vans and three cars.

Majority of the passengers were released after they were interrogated by the Taliban insurgents but at least seventeen of them were killed.

The region has been witnessing deteriorating security situation in the past few months as the Taliban insurgents are trying to destabilize the northern provinces.
