med2 Karimnagar: The Andhra Pradesh Medical and Sales Representatives Union's (APMSRU) 34th state level meeting would be held at Vaisya Bhavan in Karimnagar from March 15 to 17. APMSRU state president Mukund Kulkarni, addressing the media here on Wednesday, demanded the re-opening of public sector drug production companies (IDPL etc). He said that certain private pharmaceutical companies have been conducting laboratory tests on innocent people who have been affected by various diseases. The State and Central Governments have to take steps to prevent such tests by private pharma companies, he demanded. Some companies have been indulging in producing cheap drugs and medicines and some other companies are selling medicines in black market. The governments have to take stringent measures to stop production of cheap medicines, Kulkarni said. The union's state general secretary A G Raj Mohan said that their union was launched in 1968 and it has been fighting against corruption and unethical practices of the pharmaceutical companies. The union organised several agitations highlighting the irregularities committed by various pharmaceutical companies across the state. The three-day meeting would highlight several important issues of the medical representatives, he said. The union's organising secretary Nadipalli Prasada Rao, Chalmeda Ananda Rao Medical College chairman Chalmeda Lakshmi Narasimha Rao and others were present at the press meet.
