Karimnagar: District Collector M Veera Brahmaiah inspected Textile Park at Sircilla in Karimnagar district on Tuesday. He also inspected Apparel Academy and Garment Manufacture Training Centre (GMTC) which is run by District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in the town.
Later, Mr Veera Brahmaiah visited the houses of Gundeti Ranjit and Alle Bhanuchander, the two weavers who had committed suicide recently. He spoke to the family members of the deceased weavers and assured that financial assistance from the government would be provided to them shortly.
He urged the weavers not to resort to suicide due to financial constraints or due to other reasons. He tried to instill confidence among the weavers about the government’s possible financial help. The Collector interacted with the personnel who have been getting training at GMTC.
The Collector held a meeting at Revenue Divisional Office and discussed the issues relating to power loom weavers, power-loom owners and handloom weavers. He asked the power-loom owners to work for 8 hours per day and not to insist on 12 hours per day. The shift timings should be for 8 hours and not for 12 hours, he added. This move would reduce mental pressure on the weavers, he observed.
A psychologist would be appointed at Sircilla on contract basis to provide counseling to weavers, he said. ``Roads would be developed, and other facilities would be provided in the Textile Park. About 100 personnel would be provided training at the Park,’’ Mr Veera Brahmaiah assured. Textile Department Assistant Director Venkateswara Rao, Assistant Director for Training Anjaiah, Narayana, RDO Srinivas and other officials accompanied the Collector during his visit.
