School teacher accused of sexually harassing students

Suryapet: A Secondary Grade Teacher of the primary school at Shettigudem was accused of sexually harassing his students by showing them lurid pictures and for forcing the girls to dance in classrooms after school hours. It is also alleged that the teacher, Kiran, also consumes liquor in the school during afternoons. Unable to take the teacher’s torture, the students complained to their parents.

Enraged by the teacher’s behaviour, on Wednesday, parents of the students, accompanied by local Sarpanch Malla Reddy and other villagers, gheraoed the school and locked it up. Demanding Kiran’s immediate dismissal, they staged a demonstration at the school and later took the matter to senior officials.

Parents, along with the representatives of several NGOs like MV Foundation, expressed anguish over the future of their wards with the teacher resorting to such tasteless behaviour. They said they were forced to admit their children in the government school due to inability to seek admission in private institutions.

Following the protest, Mandal Education Officer Dharam Singh visited the school and conducted an inquiry into the allegations. Later, the MDO and local SI said action would be taken against the teacher after receiving the response of their higher officials. Representatives of several student organisations sought immediate dismissal of the teacher.
