Rash driving: Minors, parents counselled

​Nalgonda: The police on Thursday counselled minors caught driving without licence as well as their parents in the meeting hall of the police headquarters in Nalgonda. In all, 50 minors, including students, and their parents attended the counseling session organized by the traffic police.

Giving an earful to the minors and their parents, Superintendent of Police N Prakash Reddy said that parents should not allow their minor children without a valid driving licence to ride motorcycles. Should parents give their own vehicles to children, the driving licences of even the parents would be cancelled, he cautioned. Minors caught riding motorcycles without licence for the second time could be jailed, he warned.

Advising people not to drive while speaking or chatting on cell phones, Prakash Reddy said that it would lead to road accidents. Police cases in such instances would pose problems to students in getting passport in future, he pointed out.

Reminding that 500 people died in the district in road accidents since January 2016, the Superintendent of Police said that measures would be taken up to reduce accidents by taking up road safety measures. There was a need to create awareness among people on wearing helmets and seat belts, he added.

Circle Inspector (Traffic) Adi Reddy said that majority of the minors and non-driving licence holders caught during vehicle checking were students. Clips of accidents captured by CC cameras were shown as part of the counselling process.
