Believe it or not! Speed breakers, meant for avoiding accidents, enroute Huzuraba-Saidabad road are becoming the main reason for mishaps. There will be regular traffic flow of two-wheelers, autos, jeeps, lorries, trucks and TSRTC buses every day on this 11-km road, covering six villages.

But the commuters are irked at 36 speed breakers on this short distance. They said the travelling time on this route is only 10 minutes but it takes more than half-an-hour due to the numerous unscientific speed bumps.

10 speed breakers were constructed on the road to Elabotharam village, where there is no need for them. Speed breakers are used to slow down the vehicles’ speed at selected places where traffic is more.

While speed breakers can help in slowing down traffic and reducing high speed crashes, an unplanned or illegal speed breaker can be more much dangerous than the high speed crashes it is trying to prevent.

Too many undesirable speed breakers at very close intervals are unauthorised and unscientific. There are also other areas where absence of speed breakers has caused fatal accidents.

Sometimes an over speeding biker losts his control after crossing an unscientifically constructed speed breaker and got hit by some vehicle.
The commuters complained that these speed breakers were not constructed as per the Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines.

There is no uniformity in the height of these speed breakers, no sign boards erected to warn the commuters, there were not painted to give a visual warning.

It is true that several accidents took place here on this road due to the presence of several speed bumps. Several regular commuters on this road complained of developing neck and back pains. They requested the authorities concerned to remove these unscientific speed breakers and prevent accidents.
