Khammam: The 32nd death anniversary of Chakali Ilamma observed on a grand note by the representatives of Telangana Rajaka Seva Society (TRSS) and other peoples organisations’ here in Khammam on Sunday.

They paid rich floral tributes to the statue of Ilamma near Collectorate and took out a massive rally, under the leadership of TRSS district president Pagarti Sudhakar, from Collectorate to Bhakta Ramadasu Kalakshetram.

MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar attending as a chief guest to the programme organised on the occasion said Chakali Ilamma was inspiration to many who fought against feudalism.

District convenor of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) Dr S Papa Rao said though she was born as a middleclass washerwoman, Ilamma actively participated in the movement against Nizam government and her house was the centre of activities conducted against the feudal lords, who shook hands with the Nizam.

Taking Chakali Ilamma as an inspiration, the present generation must participate in the movements on the people issues, he urged.

Baby Vaishnavi’s performance as Chakali Ilamma drew grand applause from the audience. TJAC district co-convener Badhru Naik, state leader of BC Sangham P Ventaramana, TVV district president K V Krishna Rao, Veeranna Naik, Ravinder, Lakshman, Ramesh and Nagesh were present along with others.
