Kothagudem to drop 1.92 cr fishseed in 247 tanks
With the lofty aim of creating a heavy stock of fish, the district administration has purchased 1.92 crore fishlings for dropping them in 247 tanks, after allocating Rs 29 crore for a comprehensive plan to develop fisheries. ,Kothagudem: With the lofty aim of creating a heavy stock of fish, the district administration has purchased 1.92 crore fishlings for dropping them in 247 tanks, after allocating Rs 29 crore for a comprehensive plan to develop fisheries. The amount is to be spent during the years 2017-18 and 2018-19. Soon, awareness programmes, like holding constituency-wise conventions, are to be held. The local MLAs will attend as chief guests at the conventions.
This fisheries scheme has been finalised by officials after the tanks got filled following good rains this season. There are 53 primary fisheries associations with 2,896 members, including seven with 370 members. The State government has taken up the scheme to benefit women. Thirty-eight varying units are being made available to these associations.
The Irrigation and Panchayat Raj departments have decided to raise fishlings in 247 tanks across the district. A committee with the Joint Collector as chairman and the Fisheries department officer, the Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry and the DRDA Project Director as members, has finalised the tenders for purchasing the 1.92 crore fishlings.
The fishlings include 1.35 crore with 35-40 mm long, with each purchased at 60 paise, at a total cost of Rs 81 lakh. There are also 57 lakh fishlings of 80-100 mm long, each costing Rs 1.32 with the total cost of Rs 75.24 lakh.
A fish market is being established in each mandal of the district to enable fishermen sell their produce. Marketing facilities are to be provided at these markets, Buchi Babu, District Fisheries Officer, told The Hans India. For the first time in the district, kiosk-like shops are being established for the benefit of women.
The department officials said this was being done to avoid the sale of fish in unhealthy conditions as in the past. The kiosks will be subsidised by the government and will have manual freezers for preserving, according to Buchi Babu.
