Khammam: Communist Party of India (CPI) has demanded that the TRS government celebrate Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 as an official programme.

Speaking on the occasion of week-long bus yatra, as part of Telangana Armed Struggle anniversary celebrations, entering Khammam district on Wednesday, CPI State joint secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who supported the demand for observing September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day officially before coming to power, did not celebrate it even after his government completed three years.

He criticised KCR for backtracking on the issue after coming to power. Referring to the similar demand of the BJP, he said the saffron party which had no part in the armed struggle was trying to take advantage of the situation by creating anti-Muslim vote bank.

Earlier, hundreds of party activists led by district secretary Bagam Hemanth Rao welcomed the bus yatra on Suryapet-Khammam border.
